WORKSHOP 1: Service Learning for and with Elementary and Secondary Schools – Beyond the obvious
Sorana Pogacean (Romania)
Having Higher Education students engaged in service-learning projects has lots of benefits for the student. It’s a way to gain a variety of useful skills and to understand the community in which they plan to enter the workforce. But the idea of ”reprocity and mutual benefit is fundamental to the idea of true service-learning ” therefore it is important to create a learning space in which the community has also the opportunity to grow. So, what if your skills and knowledge could become a microdegree for students in elementary and secondary? Imagine this: is there something you know now and wished you knew when you were in school? We know it's hard to include more subjects in the school curriculum, but what if you could access it online? No time or space constraints? Let me show you a great tool to create learning content and challenge students to start great service-learning projects
We encourage all to „try” our workshop and see how we managed to „move” creating a Service-Learning Project in online.

WORKSHOP 3: Rethinking community-based learning during the Covid-19 pandemia
Silvia Dall’Olio, Mallory Nardin, Maria Cinque, Irene Culcasi (Italy)
Community Engagement and Service-Learning have grown significantly in North-American universities and colleges in the past forty years, and now enjoy a solid degree of institutionalization. The approach is new for Italy but is rapidly growing both in schools and in some universities. The workshop will focus on the transition from Service Learning to e-Service Learning that was forced by the Covid-19 emergency in Italy. A theoretical framework, resources and student video-testimonies will be shared. A discussion on future challenges will follow. The workshop is conducted by CBL instructors at an Italian University and the Italian center of a US University.

SLIHE WORKSHOP 4: Networking in service-learning: weaving networks in the community and among colleagues
Luz Avruj (Argentina)
As José Antonio Marina says, „the social capital of a community is understood as the set of shared values, the way of solving conflicts, of interacting, of living together, the level of citizen participation in organizations, the way of caring for common goods“. Networking is a central part of service-learning both in the development of SL projects as well as the strength built in bonding among SL practitioners and researchers. We intend to reflect on shared experiences and discuss the construction and strengthening of networks with the aid of specific materials to improve our understanding and capabilities on the subject.
WORKSHOP 5: Sharing Service-Learning Experiences in less than 10 minutes: The systematic collection of the European Observatory of Service-Learning in Higher Education, EOSLHE
Marta Alonso (Spain), Ana Cayuela (Spain)
We have a CHALLENGE FOR YOU!
At least 75 S-L Experiences shared by in 25 countries by July 15th
EOSLHE is a networking space to share and disseminate service-learning in higher education information. By sharing your S-L experiences you will inspire others to put up a project, and you will contribute to give us a full picture of what is going in Europe.
The purpose of this workshop is to involve participants in the challenge of mapping Europe with service-learning experiences. The coordinator and the researcher of EOSLHE will be available all the time for personal interaction with the attendances.
EOSLHE means to be a tool for faculty members.
PLACE YOUR SERVICE-LEARNING EXPERIENCE ON THE MAP!
WORKSHOP 6: Workshop on Civic Learning
Robert Bringle (USA)
According to definitions of service-learning, civic learning should be an intentional learning objective for students. However, civic learning is not well understood and is an underdeveloped aspect of service-learning that can be improved. Participants in this workshop will consider the nature of civic learning, identify ways in which their service-learning courses promote civic learning, explore opportunities to enhance civic learning objectives, and consider methods for assessing civic learning. Improving the civic component of service-learning courses shifts service learning from being technocratic (i.e., problem-based learning in the community) to promoting civic and democratic growth in students.

15,30 - 16,30 KEYNOTE 1: STRATEGIES FOR BUILDING THE ENGAGED UNIVERSITY
Andrew Furco
Associate Vice President for Public Engagement
University of Minnesota, U.S.A.
Most universities can point to many community engagement programs and projects taking place on their campuses. However, there is a difference between a university with community engagement programs and an “engaged university”. In this session, we examine what the research tells us regarding the critical elements that are essential for building the engaged university. We explore the policies, infrastructure, culture, and leadership that are needed to move an institution from being a university with community engagement projects to becoming a fully engaged university. We also discuss the important and critical role that service-learning plays in creating the pathway for institutions of higher education to become engaged universities.
